I’ll stop when I’m done is the third album, and first research-led body of work, from EERA, the Berlin-based Norwegian artist Anna Lena Kristen, produced by Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear). The album is inspired by the famous Marilyn Monroe quote: «I don’t stop when I’m tired, I only stop when I’m done» and interweaves intimate reflections on what it means to be a modern woman with researched insights into the lives of the starlets from Hollywood’s Golden Age. What emerges is a studied celebration of the female experience, in all its complexity, strength and vulnerability.

EERA has previously released two albums, 2021’s Speak and 2017’s Reflections of Youth, to critical acclaim. She has toured throughout the UK and Europe, including support slots with Mitski, Ghostpoet, and Public Service Broadcasting, and performed at festivals such as By: Larm, End of the Road, and Roskilde.

«Overall, I wanted to address the pressure I feel as a woman, but also an artist» expands EERA. «I linked some of my emotions with old movie stars from the 50s and 60s, like Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn. I enjoyed doing research about them, and with doing that I saw just how much criticism they endured even though they were highly successful.»
«A lot of them though still had one focus: to find true love and to find true happiness within
themselves. I find this contrast very interesting; that even with major success people are still
searching for what truly matters to them.»

I’ll stop when I’m done carries a decidedly softer and more subdued sound, punctuated by
warm percussion and upbeat intervals. The album’s lyrics were captured as EERA sang each song softly from a sofa «which made everything feel more relaxed and personal. As women, we have to be brave and loud and do a million things just to be heard. I feel that makes quite a contrast on the album.»

«Bruland has built on her formative PJ Harvey influences with a blurrier, chillier mix of guitars and electronics, landing somewhere bewitching between Broadcast, My Bloody Valentine and Lush.» – MOJO 4*

«EERA hits Hollywood highs on psychedelic dream-pop album ‘I’ll stop when I’m
done’.» – Loud Women
