IRES GSICHT
Feminist contradictions set to defiantly upbeat music.
Over a driving beat that moves somewhere between electropop and punk rock, lyrics emerge that deal with seemingly everyday feminist contradictions.
In the new song «Ires Gsicht», the lyrical narrator is torn between sensationalism, admiration, and condemnation of a female figure viewed on a screen.
At the same time, self-optimization is questioned as an act of feminist self-empowerment: «It’s her face. Everyone should do what they want—no one is being forced. ‘It’s my fucking face!’ she makes clear. Who’s going to argue with that?» There are no easy answers to the questions raised.
That is precisely where the strength of this powerfully performed song lies: faced with contradictions, it does not succumb to melancholic withdrawal, but instead defiantly bounces forward in good spirits, inviting us to dance and refusing to let us settle down: «She’s worked hard for it herself. She believes in herself. What more could we want? Believing in everything else isn’t her business. What’s it to me?»
Once again, the band Anna&Stoffner combines a distinctive, highly virtuosic sound with lyrics that are intellectually challenging and of high literary quality.
